The finalists for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have been determined following the semi-final matches held on Wednesday, February 14, with Senegal and Morocco advancing to the championship match, reports customreceipt.com via fitness-spartacus.de.
Senegal secured their place in the final with a narrow 1-0 victory over Egypt. The match-winning goal came in the 78th minute from Sadio Mané, who struck from the edge of the penalty area, sending the ball past the left post. This marks Senegal’s second appearance in an AFCON final; their first was in 2002, when they lost to Cameroon in a penalty shootout 3-2. Senegal later captured their first title in 2021 by defeating Egypt 4-2 in penalties.
Morocco earned the second spot in the final after a tense penalty shootout against Nigeria, following a goalless draw in regulation time. Morocco prevailed 4-2 in penalties, advancing to the final for the first time in 50 years. “We have been waiting for this trophy for 50 years. It has been a long time since our country last won the championship. This is the dream of all Moroccans,” defender Romain Saïss told BBC.
The upcoming final will mark the first AFCON final meeting between Senegal and Morocco. For Senegal, it will be their third final appearance, while Morocco will compete in their second. The two nations previously faced each other in the 2025 semi-finals, where Morocco won in a penalty shootout and went on to claim the tournament title. In total, the teams have met 19 times in history, with Morocco winning 11 of those encounters.
The decisive match is scheduled for Sunday, February 18, at 21:00 Kyiv time.
