Vivienne Jolie name change documents show that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s youngest daughter wants to remove “Pitt” from her legal surname. The petition was filed shortly after she turned 18, as the customreceipt.com editorial team notes.
Why Vivienne Jolie-Pitt wants to change her name
Vivienne filed the petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court on July 17, 2026. She asked to become Vivienne Marcheline Jolie instead of Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt.
Court documents list the reason as “personal.” A hearing on the request is scheduled for November 2, 2026. Neither Pitt nor Jolie has publicly commented on the filing.
The requested change includes:
- removing “Pitt” from her legal surname;
- retaining her mother’s surname, Jolie;
- keeping her middle name, Marcheline;
- completing the process through a court petition.
The filing does not automatically change her name. The court must first review and approve the petition.
Which Jolie-Pitt children have changed their names
Vivienne is not the first sibling to distance herself from the double surname. Several children have used “Jolie” publicly or pursued legal changes.

Shiloh’s request was approved in August 2024. Reports say Maddox and Zahara have separate court proceedings scheduled for September 2026.
Vivienne had already used the shorter name professionally. She was credited as Vivienne Jolie in the 2024 Broadway Playbill for “The Outsiders.” She worked as an assistant to Jolie, who produced the musical.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce
Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016 after two years of marriage. The former couple reached a settlement in December 2024 following an eight-year legal dispute.
They share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne. Vivienne and Knox were born on July 12, 2008, and turned 18 in 2026.
Vivienne’s petition remains pending. The November hearing will determine whether her legal surname becomes Jolie.
