Jake and Romy Reiner, the children of Rob and Michele Reiner, have issued a statement confirming that a memorial service honoring their parents will be scheduled at a later date, Baltimore Chronicle via PEOPLE. In their statement, the siblings expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received from friends, family, and the wider public following the deaths of their parents on December 14, 2025.
Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 70, were found deceased in their Los Angeles home on December 14. Their son Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested the same day and charged with two counts of murder. Reports from the Los Angeles Times and KNBC indicate that Nick had been receiving treatment for schizophrenia prior to the incident.
Jake, 34, Nick, 32, and Romy, 27, are the children of Rob and Michele Reiner. Rob also has a daughter, Tracy, from his first marriage to Penny Marshall. Following the tragedy, the Reiner family released a statement on December 14 saying, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
On December 17, Jake and Romy Reiner shared a personal statement saying, “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.” The siblings added that they appreciate the messages of condolence and support they have received, and they requested privacy while encouraging compassion and humanity in public discussion.
Rob and Michele Reiner were married in 1989 after meeting during the production of When Harry Met Sally…, which Rob directed that year. Their son Nick has previously spoken publicly about struggles with addiction that began during his teenage years. He appeared in court on December 17, where his attorney, Alan Jackson, declined to enter a plea, with his arraignment continuing on January 7, 2026.
Romy Reiner has pursued a career in acting, following in the footsteps of her father and grandfather, Carl Reiner. She made her onscreen debut in the 2020 film Voices and has appeared in You People and Things Like This, which was executive produced by her brother Jake. Romy also guest-starred in a 2021 episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, a show on which Rob Reiner himself appeared in 2001.
