Netflix has released an updated ranking of the ten most popular movies currently being watched by subscribers worldwide, combining brand-new originals with well-known studio hits from past decades, reports customreceipt.com via Decider. The list reflects real-time viewing data and shows strong interest in thrillers, action films, family favorites, and documentaries across different release years.
The current chart is led by The Rip, a new Netflix original thriller released in 2026, while legacy titles such as Night at the Museum and Independence Day continue to attract large audiences years after their theatrical debuts. Netflix updates this ranking weekly based on engagement and viewing trends among its global subscriber base.
One of the most-watched films on the platform right now is Copshop (2021), an action thriller starring Gerard Butler. The film centers on con artist Teddy Murretto, who deliberately gets himself arrested in a small-town police station to evade a professional hitman. The plan begins to unravel when the assassin is also taken into custody, forcing a rookie police officer into the middle of a violent and strategic standoff. The film blends dark humor with action-driven pacing and is currently available to stream on Netflix.
At the top of the chart is The Rip (2026), marking the on-screen reunion of longtime collaborators Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The Netflix-produced thriller follows two Miami police officers whose ethical boundaries are tested after discovering millions of dollars in cash during a narcotics operation. Damon plays Lieutenant Dane Dumars, while Affleck portrays Detective Sergeant J.D. Byrne. As tensions rise within their tactical unit, trust erodes and personal loyalties are challenged. The cast also includes Teyana Taylor and Steven Yeun.
Another title drawing strong viewership is Faith in the Flames: The Nichole Jolly Story (2024), a Lifetime drama starring Chrissy Metz. Based on real events, the film tells the story of an emergency medical technician who risks her life to save family members and residents when a massive fire engulfs her hometown. The movie focuses on first-responder courage and community survival during a large-scale disaster.
The comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (2016) has also re-entered Netflix’s top rankings. Zac Efron and Adam Devine star as two brothers searching for respectable dates for their sister’s wedding. Their plans go awry after meeting Alice and Tatiana, played by Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza, who secretly intend to turn the trip to their own advantage. The film remains popular due to its ensemble cast and fast-paced humor.
Family audiences continue to revisit Night at the Museum (2006), starring Ben Stiller and Robin Williams. The fantasy comedy follows Larry Daley, a night security guard at the Museum of Natural History, who discovers that an ancient Egyptian curse causes the exhibits to come alive after dark. The film’s mix of history, comedy, and adventure has sustained its long-term popularity on streaming platforms.
The 1996 science fiction blockbuster Independence Day is also trending on Netflix. Directed by Roland Emmerich, the film depicts a coordinated global response to an alien invasion threatening Earth. The story follows Marine pilot Steven Hiller, scientist David Levinson, and U.S. President Thomas Whitmore as they attempt to counterattack on July 4. The film remains one of the most recognizable sci-fi titles of the 1990s.
Romantic drama Terry McMillan Presents: Forever (2024) has gained renewed attention as well. Starring Taye Diggs and Meagan Good, the story focuses on a military veteran returning home and forming a relationship with a single mother of three. The film explores themes of second chances, family responsibility, and emotional commitment.
Horror sequel M3GAN 2.0 (2025) is another strong performer on the chart. Alison Williams and Violet McGraw reprise their roles as Gemma and Cady, who attempt to rebuild their lives after the events of the original film. When a new military-grade artificial intelligence known as AMELIA becomes a threat, the original M3GAN resurfaces from a hidden digital state, positioning herself as the only possible defense.
Netflix’s animated original KPop Demon Hunters (2025) has also entered the top ten. The musical fantasy follows a fictional K-pop girl group who secretly battle demonic forces while maintaining their public celebrity personas. The characters are voiced by Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo, and the film features original music alongside comedic and supernatural elements.
Rounding out the list is the documentary Miracle: The Boys of ’80 (2026). The film revisits the historic 1980 Winter Olympics hockey match in which the U.S. team defeated the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Featuring firsthand interviews with players, the documentary examines the cultural, political, and athletic significance of the event now known as the “Miracle on Ice.”
