President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform that the United States carried out a “powerful and deadly strike” against ISIS terrorists in Nigeria, who he claimed were “targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians,” reports customreceipt.com with reference to official posts on X. The announcement follows Trump’s previous warning in early November to act against ISIS in Nigeria “guns-a-blazing,” which was reinforced by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who stated that the Department of Defense was “preparing for action.”
In his post, Trump emphasized that he had warned these terrorists that the slaughter of Christians would provoke a strong response, and described the military operation as “numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing.” While the exact outcome of the strike and its precise targets have not been fully disclosed, the White House has been contacted for further details.
Defense Secretary Hegseth also stated on X that “more to come” is expected and thanked the Nigerian government for its cooperation and support in the operation. He stressed that the killing of innocent Christians must end and noted that the Department of War was “always ready,” underscoring that ISIS experienced US action on Christmas.
The U.S. Africa Command confirmed the strikes, noting that they were conducted “in coordination with Nigerian authorities.” The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja later issued a statement explaining that the operations were part of ongoing security cooperation with the United States and other partners, including intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and support consistent with international law and respect for sovereignty.
The Defense Department reposted President Trump’s statement along with an unclassified video showing a missile launch from a ship, presumably directed at ISIS targets in Nigeria. This strike follows recent US operations against ISIS in Syria, which were conducted after an attack killed three Americans earlier this month. In November, Trump directed the Pentagon to prepare for action against Nigeria after criticizing the Nigerian government for insufficiently protecting Christians from violence.
