Xiaomi launches Sky Nomad SUV series as it expands beyond pure electric cars

Xiaomi Sky Nomad is a new SUV series using extended-range electric technology, spacious interiors and smart features for families and long journeys.

Xiaomi Sky Nomad marks the Chinese technology group’s next major step into the automotive market. The company has presented the name for a new SUV series focused on spacious cabins, long journeys and extended-range powertrains, as reported by the customreceipt.com editorial team.

Sky Nomad will become Xiaomi’s second vehicle series

Xiaomi EV describes Sky Nomad as a new product series rather than an independent car brand. Its Chinese name is Xiaomi Pengcheng.

The line will sit alongside the company’s existing electric vehicles, including the SU7 sedan and YU7 crossover. Xiaomi says the new range will include smart, versatile and spacious SUVs designed for families and long-distance travel.

The first official teaser shows a large SUV with a box-shaped body, high roof and rugged proportions. Xiaomi has not yet disclosed its final model name, price or complete technical specifications.

Xiaomi enters the extended-range electric vehicle market

Sky Nomad vehicles will use an extended-range electric powertrain, commonly known as EREV. The wheels are driven by electric motors, while a combustion engine generates electricity when the battery charge falls.

This format offers several practical advantages:

  • electric propulsion during everyday journeys;
  • longer driving range without lengthy charging stops;
  • lower dependence on public charging infrastructure;
  • more flexibility for motorway trips and remote destinations.

The technology places Sky Nomad between conventional plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles. It also brings Xiaomi into direct competition with Chinese manufacturers such as Li Auto.

Why Sky Nomad matters for Xiaomi

Xiaomi entered mass-market car production with performance-oriented battery vehicles. Sky Nomad broadens that strategy toward larger family cars and customers who remain concerned about charging access.

The new series may also strengthen Xiaomi’s connected ecosystem. Future models are expected to integrate vehicle functions with smartphones, home devices and the company’s HyperOS platform.

However, Sky Nomad is currently intended for China. Xiaomi has not announced international sales or confirmed whether the SUV series will reach Europe.
