The series, which entered production following its greenlight in May 2024, marks the latest adaptation of the globally recognized video game franchise. Turner’s casting was publicly confirmed in November 2024, positioning her as the newest actress to step into the role previously portrayed by Angelina Jolie in two films and Alicia Vikander in another.

Joining Turner in the ensemble cast are Martin Bobb-Semple, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein. Phoebe Waller-Bridge leads the project as creator, writer, and executive producer, with Chad Hodge serving as co-showrunner and executive producer. Jonathan van Tulleken has been appointed director and executive producer.

The Tomb Raider franchise originated with the release of the first video game in 1996, which quickly established Lara Croft as a defining female action hero in popular culture. The most recent game installment, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, debuted in 2018, while several of the franchise’s original titles have been remastered for modern platforms. Two upcoming games, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, are scheduled for release in 2026 and 2027, respectively.

The series is produced collaboratively by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics, and Amazon MGM Studios. Executive producers include Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins via Wells Street Productions; Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson of Story Kitchen; Michael Scheel; Chad Hodge; Jonathan van Tulleken; and Legendary Television. Waller-Bridge is currently operating under an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

Development of the series follows a strategic agreement between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios, facilitated through Story Kitchen’s first-look deal with the studio, enabling the creation of further Tomb Raider adaptations in both film and television formats.
