Mississippi State freshman quarterback Kamario Taylor avoided a potentially serious injury after an alarming incident late in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl against Wake Forest, which ended in a 43–29 loss for the Bulldogs, according to Customreceipt with reference to Fox News.

The incident occurred in the closing minutes of the game on Friday night in Charlotte, North Carolina, as Taylor attempted to extend a scramble with Wake Forest holding a 14-point lead. After evading multiple defenders, the Mississippi native took an awkward hit low as he was being tackled, drawing immediate concern from teammates, coaches, and fans.

Videos circulating on social media appeared to show Taylor’s left knee bending at an unnatural angle as he went to the ground. He remained down in visible pain while medical personnel quickly entered the field to assist him. Taylor was later placed on a cart and transported to the locker room for further evaluation.

Following the game, Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby addressed the situation and offered cautious optimism regarding Taylor’s condition, though he did not disclose specific medical details. Lebby noted that early feedback from the medical staff was encouraging and emphasized the importance of continued evaluation.

“Initial reports have been good, so we’ll continue to evaluate and get more information,” Lebby said. “I feel good about getting in the locker room, being able to talk with our medical staff, and being able to see Kamario again.”

Additional clarity came from Taylor’s mother, LaQuandra Conner, who shared an update on Facebook after the game. She stated that her son suffered an ankle injury but avoided more serious damage, adding that no bones were broken and no ligaments were torn.

The Duke’s Mayo Bowl marked Taylor’s second career start for the Bulldogs. Despite the loss, the freshman quarterback delivered a productive performance, completing 13 of 22 pass attempts for 241 yards and one touchdown. He also contributed significantly on the ground, rushing for 63 yards and scoring an additional touchdown.
