Apple is preparing the iPhone 18 Pro with several significant upgrades ahead of its expected launch in September 2026, reports customreceipt.com via macrumors. According to insider information attributed to Apple analyst Jeff Pu of GF Securities and other supply chain sources, the next‑generation Pro model will introduce at least five major enhancements over its predecessor, the iPhone 17 Pro.
One of the most visible changes will be a smaller Dynamic Island cutout at the top of the display, achieved by relocating part of the Face ID sensor, specifically the flood illuminator, beneath the screen. This adjustment is expected to reduce the width of the current pill‑shaped notch without eliminating it entirely, thereby increasing the usable screen area for apps and media.
In the camera department, the iPhone 18 Pro’s main rear camera, a 48‑megapixel Fusion sensor, is rumored to gain a mechanical variable aperture system. This would allow the lens opening to adjust mechanically to varying light conditions, offering photographers enhanced control over exposure and depth‑of‑field effects — a capability typically found in dedicated cameras.
Under the hood, Apple is expected to install a new A20 Pro system‑on‑chip manufactured using TSMC’s first‑generation 2‑nanometer process. This component is anticipated to deliver higher overall performance and better energy efficiency compared with the current A19 Pro chipset, particularly in tasks involving graphics and machine learning workloads.
Connectivity improvements are also part of the rumored package. The iPhone 18 Pro is set to adopt a next‑generation N2 wireless chip, succeeding the current N1 module, and an in‑house C2 modem designed to support faster 5G speeds and greater power efficiency. These communication components are projected to improve Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth and cellular performance.
Additional unconfirmed reports from industry observers suggest the new series might include a larger battery capacity compared with previous models and potential refinements to the OLED display. However, official specifications and pricing have not been released, and Apple has not publicly confirmed any of these details.
