Apple announces Siri AI as the company revealed its biggest software update in years during WWDC 2026. The event introduced a new AI-powered Siri, expanded Apple Intelligence features, stricter parental controls, and major operating system upgrades. The conference also marked an emotional milestone, as CEO Tim Cook confirmed this would be his final Worldwide Developers Conference before stepping down in September, as noted by customreceipt.com.
Cook closed the presentation by thanking developers and customers, calling his time as Apple’s leader “the honor of a lifetime.” He will be succeeded by John Ternus, previously Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering.
Siri AI becomes Apple’s most ambitious AI project
The headline announcement was Siri AI, a new assistant designed to provide more natural conversations and deeper device integration.
AI-powered Siri can answer questions, help with writing, search photos and files, and perform complex tasks across Apple devices. Apple said the service is built on the next generation of Apple Intelligence and combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute technology.
Developer testing starts immediately, while a public beta is expected later this year.
Apple Intelligence expands across the ecosystem
Apple also introduced an upgraded Apple Intelligence platform.
Users will be able to edit photos with AI tools, organize Safari tabs automatically, monitor websites for changes, and identify compromised passwords. The company also demonstrated AI-generated photorealistic images and custom Safari extensions created through simple text prompts.

New parental controls target safer digital habits
Apple unveiled significant updates for family accounts and child protection tools.
Key changes include:

The company says the goal is to help families build healthier digital habits while giving parents more control.
After these updates, Apple will automatically apply age-based protections to younger users while allowing parents to customize restrictions.
Faster iOS 27, macOS 27 and watchOS 27
The next generation of Apple software arrives later this year.
According to Apple, apps will launch 30% faster, photos will load 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers will improve by 80%. New iCloud sharing features will also support Android and Windows devices.
