Timothy Busfield Faces Child Abuse and Sexual Contact Charges in New Mexico Arrest

Actor Timothy Busfield faces charges of child abuse and criminal sexual contact in New Mexico over alleged misconduct on "The Cleaning Lady" set.

Timothy Busfield, widely recognized for his role as Danny Concannon on “The West Wing,” has been charged with criminal sexual contact of a minor and child abuse, following the issuance of an arrest warrant in New Mexico, reports customreceipt.com via Medinfo. The warrant, issued by the Albuquerque Police Department on Friday, details allegations that Busfield inappropriately touched a child actor while working on the set of “The Cleaning Lady,” a television series in which he served as both director and actor.

According to the criminal complaint obtained by ABC News, Busfield faces two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse. The actor reportedly denied the allegations during interviews with investigators. The complaint further states that the boy’s parents reported the alleged abuse began in 2022 when their son was seven years old.

The investigation reportedly commenced in November 2024 after a physician at University of New Mexico Hospital examined the child and notified police of suspected sexual abuse. Officers later interviewed the parents, who indicated that both the victim and his twin brother were child actors, although they did not report sexual abuse at the time. Subsequent reports to child protective services claimed that Busfield allegedly abused the boy from November 2022 through spring 2024.

Representatives for Warner Bros., the company behind “The Cleaning Lady,” told investigators they had previously conducted an independent review of the allegations but did not uncover supporting evidence at that time. In a statement to ABC News, a Warner Bros. Television spokesperson said: “We take all allegations of misconduct very seriously and have systems in place to promptly and thoroughly investigate, and when needed, take appropriate action. We are aware of the current charges against Mr. Busfield and have been and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement.”

Busfield is married to actress Melissa Gilbert. Information regarding his current custody status or any court appearance and bond conditions has not been made publicly available. Authorities emphasized that the case remains under active investigation.
