Gunfire in Portsmouth: Two injured on Patriot Way in broad daylight

Man and woman shot on Patriot Way in Portsmouth Wednesday afternoon; police respond and investigate the scene while witnesses express concern for children.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A man and a woman were shot Wednesday afternoon on Patriot Way in Portsmouth, according to customreceipt.com via WAVY. The incident occurred around 3:27 p.m. when Portsmouth Police responded to a report of gunfire in the 1000 block of Patriot Way. Upon arrival, officers discovered both victims had been shot and immediately transported them to a local hospital. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Witness Venisa Norman described the scene as shocking, noting that the area is typically safe for children who play nearby. “I was really shocked because that usually doesn’t happen here, the tape all around and everybody standing out here this time of day, so I was shocked to pull up and see all that,” Norman said. “Kids could be out here and they shooting, any child could’ve got shot and these kids come out here all the time to play every day.”

Portsmouth Police have not yet released details regarding the current conditions of the man and woman or whether any suspects have been identified. Investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses in hopes of determining the sequence of events and possible motive.
